The legal deadline is at the door. Can we expect to see last-minute requests for extensions again?

The Equalisation of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities Act (EODA) requires all public facilities to be accessible to persons with disabilities. As things stand, it is unlikely that this target will be met, as existing facilities and the speed of adaptations are insufficient. Despite the wishes for an extension of the deadline, especially by those who have repeatedly postponed the implementation of adaptations during the 15 years of the law's existence, we can nevertheless say that, according to our information, there will be no deviation from the prescribed deadline.

Despite the potential pressures, it is clear that any extension of the deadline would also bring its own problems.

As of 11 December 2025, the Building Inspectorate will acquire the power to monitor compliance with the essential accessibility requirements. However, it remains to be seen how effectively the monitoring will be carried out and what the sanctions will be for non-compliance with the legal obligations.
